What's Happening
Players select from a list of train variants — Default Train, Cattle Car, Presidential Train, Gold Rush, Armored Train, Frost Train, Dracula's Train, and more. Each train is previewed in a 3D scene driving through the desert, with a description panel explaining its characteristics. Some trains have stylized glowing names (Gold Rush, Frost Train) signaling higher rarity. The train you select is what every player in the match sees you riding, making it a highly visible status marker during gameplay.
Why It Works
The train is the most visible object in every match — it's literally the centerpiece of Dead Rails gameplay. Unlike a hat or skin that might go unnoticed, your train choice is impossible for other players to miss. This makes train selection the highest-impact identity purchase in the game. Themed and seasonal trains (Christmas, Dracula's) add FOMO collection pressure, and the 3D desert preview makes each train feel substantial before you commit.
